Rathmines

This involved the complete refurbishment and Extension to a period house in Rathmines.

Emphasis was placed on opening up to the garden and maximizing daylight to new and existing spaces. This was achieved by the clerestory window, a rooflight in the extension and by the formation of a courtyard between the new and the existing to retain as much light as possible to the existing reception rooms. The zinc roof of the extension was also curved to reduce its impact on the existing house.

In a tight urban sight the outdoor spaces were treated with as much care as the interior creating a series of outdoor ‘rooms’.
